The Plain Truth

I went to the doctor but he couldn't stand the pain

Fell for a hooker but she wouldn't take the blame

Four psychiatrists say they'd be insane

If they would believe what I say

It's all so plain

I'm not vain

In what I say

I told it to a gambler but he couldn't play the game

Told it to my lover but she didn't feel the same

I told it to a preacher and he called me a name

Something I won't ever say again

It's all so plain

I'm not vain

In what I say

You heard it on the radio and saw it all in color on tv

Sponsored documentaries by government or some university

Or heard it from a doctor with a million complicated degrees

Written long ago, in mexico, or some foreign country

Would you believe?

Would you believe?

Would you believe?

I sang it to the audience they didn't hear a word

I played it on the radio, they only heard the verse

Told it to a crazy man he said I was absurd

Why don't they believe what I say

It's all so plain

I'm not vain

In what I say

Commentary: Sometimes the truth is simpler than we want it to be. What do I believe? I think the word itself should be stricken. What does it really mean to 'believe' in something? Is it anymore than a an emotional attachment? something to make us feel safe? something to control us? it is completely contrary to the search of truth. (the quest-ion)
